Music Interests:  Trumpet

Trumpet Performance

When I first entered college in 1983 at Georgia Southern College (Now Georgia Southern University), I was a music major, planning to get my degree in trumpet performance.  However, during the first year I changed to psychology, believing that it would afford better stability and financial security.  However, I never stopped playing the trumpet.  Over the years I’ve played for many churches and have been a part of several bands.  In 2001 I toured Sweden with the UAH Jazz Band, and in 2006 I played in Carnegie Hall with the ODU Wind Ensemble

After I got tenure at ODU, I decided to officially continue my interest in music by pursuing an undergraduate music degree (trumpet performance).  It has been a great decision, though it keeps me pretty busy.  Hopefully, I’ll graduate in less than 20 years!

Technical details:  I play a 1978 Bach Stradivarius Model 37 B-flat trumpet (Serial No. 135817) with a custom Roy Lawler leadpipe.  I switch between a Bach 3C and a 11/2C mouthpiece.

Current work:  I am currently reading several pieces, and performing on an ad hoc basis while I complete various classes for my degree.  I also sing tenor in a choir at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Norfolk, VA.
