THE APPRENTICE AND YOUR STUDENTS

Just an idea. Have you seen the latest reality show- Apprentice with Donald Trump. The first segment ran last week Thursday. It is a bold new reality series that tests competitors’ survival techniques in New York City’s corporate jungle, A 15-episode series in which candidates vie for the chance to become an “apprentice” to a “master.” During the first season of “The Apprentice,” legendary business tycoon Donald Trump will serve as the “master” and his business empire, The Trump Organization, will be the hub of the competition.

This is a great tool for your Advanced Marketing Classes. START Taping this week!
It airs on Wednesday on NBC at 8:00 Eastern.

In the series’ concept, approximately 16 candidates from all walks of life, including both Ivy League MBA graduates and street entrepreneurs with no college education, will endure rigorous selection as they are tested for their intelligence, chutzpah and street-smarts. They will face the challenges of living together in close quarters, must complete sometimes humorous but always difficult job assignments and will be forced to think outside the box in order to outshine each other to get to the top.

Candidates not completing the job assignment successfully will meet face to face with Trump after each round of competition, enduring a grueling interview session with Trump and some of his key executives. Each week Trump will fire one candidate from the contest. In the season’s final episode, one promising and ambitious person will emerge supreme and will win the chance for the dream job of a lifetime with the Trump Organization.

Have kids predict strategy, discuss marketing, talk target marketing, interviewing skills and the do's and dont's of job interviewing. You can discuss educational background,- college verses other forms of education after high school. Even discuss the commercials! Who's advertising during the show and which products and why. Discuss why HP decided to launch theri new ad campaign just for this show alone!

I am choosing to do partners and have prizes for the parnter teams who predict winners in various challenges and ultimately each partner team will have select a winner, if they are right they win DECA Images stuff- tee-shirts etc.

Make watching the show a graded assignement each week. Have a taped version available for students who may miss an episode.

Just an idea.
The first episode of the show proved to be quite interesting. It is all about Marketing Yourself for Succcess.
