NUTRITION ON THE INTERNET

STANDARDS OF LEARNING:
SOL 11.4, 12.4 The student will read a variety of print material.
SOL 10.1 The student will participate in and report in small groups learning activities.

OBJECTIVE(S):
The student will be able to (100% or better):
Utilize Internet search engines to locate nutrition information online.
Define terms related to nutrition and health.
Analyze nutritional information of popular fast food restaurants.

ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S):
How does nutrition at this point in your life affect you for the rest of your life?
What does nutrition have to do with fashion?

WARM-UP ACTIVITY:
Students will review the use of search engines and navigating throughout web.

POWERFUL LITERACY ADDRESSED:
Students will read for entertainment and purpose.


MATERIALS:

PROCEDURE/ACTIVITIES:

1. Warm up activity to introduce students to lesson/topic
2. Hand out activity entitled “Internet Scavenger Hunt: Nutrition on the Web
3. Each student should have their own computer to use to complete the worksheet
4. Worksheet will be handed in at the end of class for grade

STUDENT ASSIGNMENT:

1. Complete warm up activity
2. Receive hand out, “Internet Scavenger Hunt: Nutrition on the Web”
3. Work individually at computer workstation to complete worksheet
4. Hand in at the end of class for grade
