BRANDING and PACKAGING

After going over the terms, strategies of branding and functions of packaging, I give students the opportunity to create a package that promotes THEM as a product. It may seem a bit far fetched, but once they grasp the concept, they really get into the activity. I usually purchase boxes from the doughnut shop in town (I can get 100 boxes for $15). I have also used the waxed Coca-Cola cups (trickier, but can work!).

The kids use paper, yarn, markers, glitter, pop sticks, etc. to decorate the box or cup using a brand mark. They then have to present it in class as a way to "sell themself". I have had "brain in a box" where the student promoted himself as a tutor, a party planner (lots of color, glitter and confetti), coach, nurse, best friend, baby sitter...the possibilities are endless. The students are also to list "ingredients" on the back (kindness and compassion for the nurse, patience, understanding, great shoulders to cry on for the best friend).
