GET TO KNOW YOUR BUSINESSES

The objective of this lesson is to locate each business in your locality.

It will take approximately three twenty-minute sections.

First you will need to download a map from Yahoo Maps or get a local highway map from your VDOT office. You may want to enlarge and/or cut back the map to suit your area's needs.

Divide the class into pairs and instruct them to write the names of all businesses on the map at as near as possible to their actual location.

After about twenty minutes, have the student pair combine with another pair and continue by sharing names of businesses with each other that were not known.

After another twenty minutes, have them switch and find another pair of students and continue.

You can continue this as long as needed until each student has as many as they can.

I have included an example of my town, Gretna, as an example if you need it. I enlarged mine to a full page. You could have students draw a map of a shopping center or area.
