Analyzing Product Features

Objectives:
Marketing Competency 14.7:  Obtain product information for various products
SOL Correlation:  11.1  The student will make persuasive presentations.

  •     Organize evidence to support a position
  •     Present evidence clearly and convincingly
  •     Support and defend ideas and thoughts in public forums


Expected Student Outcomes
The student is expected to complete a power point presentation on a product.  Students are expected to follow the guidelines for the power point presentation.  They are expected to present their presentation.

Materials Needed
1. Access to the Internet to conduct research
2. Computer to create power point presentation

Prerequisite Skills
Students should be able to access information from the Internet and should be familiar with how to create power point presentations.

Procedure
Students will complete a power point presentation of a product of their choice – approved by the teacher.  To complete the presentation they will follow the guidelines attached.

Guideline for Power Point Presentation
You are to select a product of your choice, although, it has to be approved by the teacher.  You will create a power point presentation with at least five slides.  Information that you will need to include:

Name of product – Remember this is where you get our attention so you may want to use a catchy phrase to introduce your product.

Features and Benefits of the Product
(You will need at least four features and four benefits)  This section may require multiple slides

Cost Analysis – Point out financial benefits to the consumer and compare cost-benefits between you and your competitors.

Strengths of the Product – what makes your product a good product?

Key Benefits – a summary of your information, what is the last thing you want your audience to remember about your product?

Students may use the Internet to conduct research on their product.  You may also use any printed material or other information that you have about your product.

This will be an in class project.  You will have one week to complete the project.

You will be expected to present your project to the class and be able to answer questions about your product.

 

Additional Activity

Students could go online and shop for their product.  They could find out if the product is available, range of prices, consumer information about the product, what brands and models are available and should the product be bought on line.
