Design A Line

You will design your own line of apparel for Spring 2001 and present it to the class (buyers).

Please follow the outline provided and the project will be very fun and easy to do!
Due Date: __________________!!!!    Worth 200 Points!!!

a. Write a short description of an imaginary or real customer you plan to market (sell) your line of clothing.  Include information about the customer that will help you make design and marketing decisions, for example, age, physical build, place of residence, interest and lifestyle, income, employment and level of fashion consciousness.  Remember that this is the typical customer who will buy and wear your line.

b. Decide on a theme or name for your line for marketing.  Discuss the reasons you have selected the name and how it will help you sell the line.  Any special influences?

c. Design a group of 20 coordinate pieces or related separates.  Draw or illustrate with magazine pictures what the line will look like.

d. Develop a color story and suggest fabrications.  Illustrate the color plan with colored pencils, crayons, markers or even swatches.  What colors will you offer for the season and why?

e. Approximate the wholesale prices for the line and what each will sell for at retail.  Of course, this will be an educated guess.

f. Describe the major selling points of the line.  List some points to discuss with the buyer or retailer.

g. Display your line creatively on poster board with the color plan included for the buyers to see as you present.  Must have 20 illustrations, must be on poster board.  Make sure everything is labeled!

h. Conclusions:  Can the line be successful, why or why not?
